Riding in Cirencester Park

Become a Riding in the Park Member to enjoy miles of uninterrupted riding routes in Cirencester Park.

The Grade I listed Oakley Wood forms a large part of Cirencester Park; it is easily accessible on horseback from Overley Stables where there are 6 horsebox parking spaces. While routes are marked for ease, riding is permitted anywhere within the boundary shown on the Riding in the Park Maps. South of Cirencester Park is Hailey Wood, where horseriding is permitted on designated routes only. Riders are advised to familiarise with the access areas and suggested routes before visiting.

There are two membership options:

Annual Member: £150 for the year. Annual members receive a peronsal bridle tag and can ride in the Park any day during opening hours with no pre-booking required. Simply display your bridle pass. Horsebox parking at Overley Stables is free of charge, and booked via the Membership Portal.

Day Pass Member: £18 per day. Day Pass members can pre-book individual days that suit, paying as you go. When you apply to become a member, select the date of your riding session; once your application is approved this is the date from which your membership is active. Collect your day pass from Overley Stables before heading into the Park during opening hours. Day passes and horsebox parking are booked via the Membership Portal.

*This can be a copy of your horse riding insurance or proof of membership to one of the following recognised organisations: BHS (Gold), Pony Club UK, ABRS - British Riding Schools, British Eventing, British Dressage, British Show Jumping, Endurance UK, Harry Hall membership, HPA, Countryside Alliance (gold & equestrian).

Once your application is approved, members can manage horsebox parking or day pass bookings via the Membership Portal.

What to know before you ride

CODE OF CONDUCT

RIDER ACCESS

Riders not requiring parking for a horse box are able to access Cirencester Park through the following access points: Overley Stables, Two Mile Lodge and the Overley Ride access (opposite Hailey Sawmill). See the Riding in the Park Map.

HORSE BOX PARKING

Horse box parking is provided at Overley Stables (postcode: GL7 7HX). Horse boxes are not to be parked in nearby laybys. The closest access to Cirencester Park from Overley Stables is shown on the Riding in the Park Map.

UNACCOMPANIED RIDING

It is recommended you do not ride unaccompanied whatever your level of experience. If you do intend to ride alone, inform a third party of your expected route and time of return. Although the Estate is patrolled day and night, it is irregular, and it could be some hours before help arrives should you have an accident. If you are under 15 years of age you are not permitted to ride without an accompanying adult. Any safety or environmental concerns should be reproted to the Estate Office (ideally with a ‘what3words’ app location reference).

BRIDLE TAGS

Annual Passholders receive bridle tags that must be displayed while Riding in the Park. In the event of loss of your bridle tag, please inform the Estate Office as soon as possible. There is a fee to cover the cost of a replacement.

ESTATE ACTIVITIES

As well as forestry work, farming activity and vermin control takes place throughout the year. For your own safety, please follow signage and avoid areas of activity. Parts of the Park and permitted riding routes are also used by vehicles and pedestrians. Please take extra care in these areas.

CONDITIONS OF RIDING PASS

Riding Passes are not transferable and non-refundable: they are strictly for use only by the registered holder who may not loan, share or sell the membership card. Riding Passes are non-refundable. Bridle Tags are non-transferable but can be used on multiple horses if ridden by the same person. The Bridle Tag is personal to the applicant. Estate Staff may ask to see your Pass or Bridle Tag. Please stop and accommodate this request. By buying a Riding Pass, you agree to the Terms and Code of Conduct.

Miles of uninterrupted riding

With marked loop Riding Routes varying in length from 3.5km to 8.5km, stunning listed parkland and woodland, and convenient parking and access, Cirencester Park and its woodlands are the ideal day out in the saddle.

In addition, various equestrian events are held in the Park, from organised Fun Rides to Unaffiliated Horse Trials.

Hailey Wood Riding in the Park Map

Riding in Hailey Wood is permitted on the marked route only. With an increase in the number of walkers in Hailey Wood in recent years, there has seen a notable impact to ecologically important areas for ground nesting birds, butterflies and orchids. To limit this damage, we have increased signs and notices so that walkers and riders can continue to use Hailey Wood finding the permitted routes with ease, while reducing the use over sensitive habitats.
