Vision and values
The Bathurst Estate is an innovative and collaborative estate. While embracing new, better and sustainable ways to work ensures it thrives in all areas, the estate team places great importance on acting with integrity, never losing sight of the environment in which the estate sits.
The Bathurst Estate manages a diverse portfolio of land and buildings in and around Cirencester; we work with contractors, businesses and the wider community of Cirencester, and enjoy strengthening these relationships to guarantee the quality of everything under our stewardship. The professionalism, dedication, and commitment of all involved in estate life, as well as their willingness to embrace change, is key to achieving this.
We do not underestimate the importance of how integrated we are with Cirencester. We act as stewards to enhance and preserve the estate for today and tomorrow, for those who depend on it for their livelihood, as their home and for the simple enjoyment of its natural environment.
At the heart of The Bathurst Estate is Cirencester Park with the iconic Seven Rides cutting through the Broad Avenue, close to the historic folly of Pope’s Seat. Inspired by this landscape and its seven far-reaching vistas, the team focuses on seven key areas to guide our vision, values and work ethic.
Seven Rides, Seven Vistas
Seven ways to a vibrant future
LEGACY AND STEWARDSHIP
We work to preserve and evolve historic landscapes and buildings so they continue to play an active role in supporting businesses, leisure, wildlife and biodiversity; we constantly review our undertakings to ensure they are relevant today and tomorrow.
This is personified by the present restoration of historical Ivy Lodge as a modern venue, the establishment of a new visitor area at The Old Kennels, and the continued investment in Ride Management within the historic avenues as the next generation of trees and calcareous grasslands are encouraged.
INNOVATION
Wherever possible, we embrace new ideas with open minds with a regard for industry leaders, changing business trends and society's needs. Examples include the restoration of the Tunnel House Inn to include eco lodges embedded in the surrounding historic woodlands, so adapting to current business (tourism) and environmental demands; the natural regeneration of soil fertility within the commercial farming enterprises; the creation of cycle ways to link villages to existing and new developments; retrofitting older building to be energy efficient. We invest in and experiment with the new technology for more efficient working practices.
ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY
We ensure that businesses are well governed and managed responsibly to create the long-term wealth for reinvestment in the broader estate so that it thrives for all. Developments of new private and social housing, both at Kemble and The Steadings, provide opportunities to retain properties for occupation by local families and professionals.
THE ENVIRONMENT
We work with nature to enhance the environment through annual improvements and gains to the Natural Capital of the Estate; this includes riverbank restoration along the churn valley and woodland management. We create habitats in which endangered species such as otters, butterflies and goshawks can live and thrive.
We invest in green energy with solar on farm buildings and a biogas plant that supplies energy to the national grid as well as locally. Wherever practical, we use air source heat pumps in new buildings and refurbishments and energy efficient fabric.
INTEGRITY
We aspire to deal with others fairly, professionally, with consideration and to be always approachable. We look to work collaboratively and encourage those who work with us to understand our values to ensure we work toward the same goals.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We aspire in all that we do to make a meaningful and demonstrable contribution to the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of the community in which we sit. The Bathurst Family, the Estate and its staff support local charities, community initiatives and events during and outside the normal working week.
COMMUNICATION
We seek to communicate estate activities and the reasoning for them clearly whether in person or through our various communication channels: newsletters, website, social media channels and signs.
